On the dreams of birds
The little bird sits in the cage singing.
The little bird sits in the cage singing.
Deep inside, he’s sad. But he still sings because he’s a bird.
He forgot what it’s like to be outside but something in him tells him that there’s something missing. He dreams of a different future.
He dreams that one day, his owner might bring in another cage next his cage. He dreams of a friend bird that he can sign with all day.
He dreams that maybe the owner will bring him a little she bird to live with him in the cage and have many cute little birds together.
He dreams that one day the owner might forget the cage open and that he can fly away and sign in the clouds.
Thus dreams the bird.
In the dreams of birds, the main character is not the bird. It’s the owner.
The reality of the bird tells him that none of his dreams are likely. Why doesn’t he already have a buddy bird? Why is he alone in the cage? And when he was free, did the bird ever meet a bird that escaped a cage?
The bird knows this. But the bird lives on singing and dreaming, because he is a bird and he doesn’t know better.
This man is no stranger to the dreams of birds. He dreams that one day, he will find a place where he will truly be left alone, but still be in close proximity to a specialty cafe that never runs out of seats, where blond women from Finland prepare blond roasts from Ethiopia and serve them quickly and with a lively smile, just like the good ol’ days in Tallinn.
He dreams of opening his door in the early hours and finding himself directly on the trail where he can run and cycle and think uninterrupted by cars and the morons that drive them. He dreams of 3 min pickup time and 20 minute delivery times, overnight shipping, Uniqlo, a yard, peace and quiet, nice neighbors, blond women from Finland that make blond roasts from Ethiopia, Fast internet, sunshine and low humidity, all at the same time.
But most of all, he dreams that perhaps one day, the owner will put a cage next to his cage and then he can keep writing alone, but not by himself.
He knows he’s fucking delusional but he lives on writing and dreaming because he’s a writer and he doesn’t know better.
