# On specialists

I help CEOs whose names start with T sell more POSs in November to small to midsize chocolate stores in the Austrian village of Salzburg.

That's the kind of positioning statement that I see these days. Some are pretty funny. Makes you miss SEO Ninjas, JQuery Mafia, and Ruby on Rails assassins...

Here's what the overspecialized consultant is telling you: I've already sold these ideas to half your niche, and for $20k per fortnight, I will either sell you the same thing on which they have a headstart or divulge an aggregate of their privileged information while I collect yours to sell afterward. That's how we ended up with moronic banks and car companies. They were all asking the same consultants for help. It's inbreeding 101.

Good ideas come from the outside. If inside ideas were any good, what makes you think others have not implemented them already? The same cannot be said for external ideas because there are too many of those.

I want my next dental checkup to be performed by a florist. Preferably, one that looks like a butcher and whose name starts with 西.
