# On Uppercase

Uppercase people

Those who do everything in uppercase to attract attention. Not the Gucci wearers and the BMW drivers. Those are the capitalized people. Their showcase is localized, and superficial. They’re very conspicuous even to themselves. Their vice usually ends at their favorite peacocking apparatus, whether that’s clothes, body mutilation or intellectual posturing.

Uppercase people on the other hand have every letter of their existence in uppercase. Their every move is designed to attract attention. I’m hyper attuned to this stuff for some reason so I absorb a lot of the sadness and the loneliness that sits beneath their flagrance.

Movement is what really betrays them. It’s not flailed arms or big gestures. It’s a consistent, slight overstepping on the bounds of normality. They move with a rhythms that defies reason. Acceleration is what attracts attention and theirs is out of whack.

Distance is another one. They close the distance with you not so much that you’d do something about it, but clearly closer than normal. Sometimes, they stay away a foot or two more than normal, perhaps because they just caught a rare moment of self-awareness. Once you start seeing this, you can’t unsee it.

They initiate too often. They take every half opportunity to move too far across space and spread the interaction area.

I don’t even want to start talking about voice and hand gestures.

It’s exhausting to see this all the time.

I don’t want to see it.

It’s like a curse.
